Will's Surgery

Will's surgery went very well. It was so quick that when the doctor came out to tell us it was over, both Scott and I thought something must be wrong because it seemed like he'd barely been in there but just a few minutes. Everything went smoothly and there were no complications. He has been recovering quite well, also. Here are a "few" pictures from Wednesday :) :

On the way to the hospital in the van. It was probably about 5:45 am in this picture.
Waiting for our name to be called after signing in; about 6:15 am. Don't we look thrilled to be up that early?

A day full of waiting...this was just the beginning. Here are Will and I in his very small hospital bed. He was watching some kind of cartoon and I was dozing. It was probably around 7:00 am here.
This picture actually belongs before the last one, but oh well. Here, Will is posing in his "hospital pajamas." It was the cutest little gown with cartoon tigers all over it and the saying "tired little tiger." :)
Riding to the OR.

Here is Nurse Sheila and the CRNA (nurse anesthetist) whose name I don't remember) with Will right before they took him back. He was so cute, he asked Nurse Sheila for the hat.

There they go!

Back in his room, after the surgery. He is all pink from the anesthesia.

He burrowed under his covers.

Here is the super-cute bear they gave Will, complete with his own anesthesia bag and IV-taped arm.

Trying to drink some apple juice (he didn't like doing that very much!).

On the way home (actually this was taken in the pharmacy parking lot, waiting for his prescriptions to be filled).

Back when Will was a baby and getting bronchitis all the time, Scott's mom gave us her old stethoscope from nursing school. Scott pulled it out the other night to get him used to being listened to by all the nurses. After the surgery, he decided he wanted to "take our tonsils out," and proceeded to put the stethoscope around his neck (not in his ears--that's not how it goes) and listen to our chests and backs. Then he would look in our mouths and ears with the tiny maglite (see below). It was so precious!

Eating a popsicle; after being very headstrong about not eating popsicles or drinking juice in the hospital all day and scaring us that they wouldn't release him to go because of it, Will ate about four or five popsicles later that evening at home. His favorite is purple which he calls "black."

Thanks for the pictures....so glad to see him for myself. Our precious little grandson ~ what a trooper he is! Of course, ya'll did a great job preparing him for the surgery, taking care of him! We're happy that he will be feeling SO much better and STAY healthier and happier now! I've been eating my share of popsicles, too, though my favorite is red..

Poor baby! He looks so swollen and red after it was all over. But by the final "popsicle" picture, it looks like he's made a good recovery!
