25 Random Things

1. I can't stick with one hairstyle for very long. I have to get it cut, colored, or *something* pretty regularly.
2. I have recently figured out (after many many years of trying to) what I want to be when I grow up. I am planning on starting a MLS degree (Master's of Library Science) in the near future in order to become a children's librarian.
3. In the seven years since college, I have worked in a funeral home, high school and flower shop.
4. After working for the flower shop for six years, I am finally a "designer" and will have my first Valentine's Day as such in a couple of weeks. I am scared to death.
5. I don't really like to cook, but I will. I prefer baking.
6. I am a very indoors-type person. But I do like spending time outdoors, too. I just never think about it.
7. I am a major list person. I have lists for everything.
8. I don't think I am funny, but my friends do. I guess their opinion matters more! :)
9. I love to sing and am so happy that my daughter likes for me to sing her to sleep every night. (My son doesn't like it when I sing to him).
10. When I was little, I had my own "library." I guess I should have known then.
11. My favorite food is popcorn, but I hate real corn.
12. I am turning 30 this year and hoping to take a fun trip sans kiddos.
13. Sleeping and reading are my favorite hobbies.
14. I am hopeful for our country's future.
15. I recently discovered that I like bleu cheese dressing (by accident--I thought I was getting ranch).
16. My favorite series of books is The Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon. The first book was over 500 pages and they just keep getting bigger with each new installment. I am very anxiously awaiting the 7th book coming out this coming fall; to prepare I am rereading the 5th and 6th books (with so many pages, a lot goes on.)
17. The main character in the book is named Claire and I only sort-of named my daughter after her.
18. My son's name is Will and he is the most aptly named child I've ever known. He has the strongest will. Ask anyone who knows him!
19. All of my best friends live at least two hours away from me. This is only slightly annoying.
20. I was born on my father's 26th birthday. If my son could have held on 17 days longer (not that I really wanted him to!), he would have been born on my 26th birthday.
21. Scott and I were married on my 21st birthday. No we didn't necessarily plan it that way, it just worked out that that was the best weekend available.
22. My husband is the smartest person I know and I am exceedingly proud of him and his accomplishments. I am also very glad he is inclined in math and physical sciences because those subjects are definitely not my forte.
23. My children never cease to surprise, amaze, and entertain me. They are precious and I am so thankful God chose me to be their mom.
24. I am definitely not a morning person and don't know if I ever will be. I am a night owl and rarely go to sleep before midnight.
25. I love television and movies, and easily get addicted. Most of the shows I like happen to be NBC shows because that is the only channel we get at our house. We don't have cable and our house is in some kind of twilight zone that only gets the one network station. And it's fuzzy (of course!). We did get the digital TV converter but it doesn't work 3/4 of the time. Very annoying!

I'd love for anyone who wants to do this to post a "25 Random Things" as well...I love learning more about my friends!

Hark, Hear the Bells...

...sweet silver bells, all seem to say, throw cares away...Christmas is here!

I finally got both my trees up and completed! Now all I have to do is the kids' trees and the outside lights (I think). Then, I have to speed clean my house because I'm hosting a Christmas party in ONE week! Ahh!

But, to be festive, I thought I would share a few pics of my trees and a few of the fam. As I mentioned in my last post, my parents gave me my present early--a fancy new digital camera, so we've been having fun playing with the different settings. My favorites for the trees are "candlelight" and "night scenery." Scott's a better photographer than me as he takes the time to actually read the manual and try stuff out :) But, I digress. Here ya go:

The den tree--my traditional one. I also have one in that little corner. Yes, I am one of those people (You know, those that have a tree in almost every room). Sorry, I got it from my mom; but I really think she learned it from our old next door neighbor, Ruth Ann, so we'll blame her!

The front living room tree. It's my "elegant" one.

(Above & below: Some of Scott's fancy photography.)

In Pottery Barn's Christmas catalog they featured a family tree with framed photos on it. I thouhgt that was pretty neat, so I tried to copy!

And how could I forget...I took the kids to the parade last night. Below, Will is pointing at something...not sure what!

Claire Bear at her first parade

One of the many floats

Also, I have been tagged yet again by Kelly, but this is a special Christmas edition. I think I did it last year, but hey, it's the holidays. let's do it again!

1. Wrapping paper or gift bags? I prefer wrapping paper at Christmas-time for some reason. Of course, if a gift is impossible to wrap and would go better in a bag...by all means, I use the bag.

2. Real tree or artificial? I love the way real trees smell (love walking by the tree lots!) but artificial is so much more practical for me.

3. When do you put up the tree? Anytime after Halloween is fair game for me. Since I have so much to do and two little rugrats, the sooner the better. They might be up and naked for a coupld of weeks before I can get to them!

4. When do you take the tree down? After New Year's

5. Do you like eggnog? Nope. Scott does, though.

6. What about fruit cake? Again, nope!

7. Favorite gift recieved as a child? One Christmas I got everything Barbie...the house, the car, clothes, and of course, several of the dolls. My poor aunt got the job of putting it all together and sticking all the stickers on. Thanks, Aunt Shirley. I still remember. What a great day!

8. Do you have a nativity scene? No

9. Hardest person to buy for? grandparents and in-laws; and Claire, because she's a baby and doesn't need anything!

10. Easiest person to buy for? Will (I want to get him so many things!)

11. Worst Christmas gift you ever recieved?

12. Mail or Email cards? I definitely prefer snail mail, but this year, I think the cards ain't happnin'. We just have too much going on. So maybe email would be a good alternative to nothing!

13. Favorite Christmas movie? I have so many...it's time to start watching! White Christmas, Home Alone, A Christmas Story, It's a Wonderful Life

14. When do you start shopping for Christmas? Usually around October or November...as soon as it occurs to me that I need to start!

15. Have you ever recycled a Christmas gift? Yes.

16. What is your favorite thing to eat at Christmas? Ham, my grandma's sweet potato casserole, pumpkin pie, candied pecans, pecan pie, hot chocolate

17. Clear or colored lights on the tree? Clear!

18. Travel for Christmas or stay at home? I prefer to stay at home, but we end up traveling a lot to be with family.

19. Can you name all of Santa's reindeer? Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen, & Rudolph

20. Angel or star on top of the tree? Star

21. Favorite Christmas song? religious--O Holy Night; secular--Winter Wonderland

22. Open the presents on Christmas Eve or morning? Usually Christmas morning, but sometimes we open one on Christmas Eve.

23. What is the one gift you really want this year? An iPod stand alone player. I already got the digital camera I also really wanted.

24. What is the most annoying thing about this time of year? The crazy holiday shoppers. And things like going to Midland to get more ribbon from Hobby Lobby only to find out that Hobby Lobby is completely sold out of ribbon.

25. What I love most about Christmas? I love the joy and fun of it. I love the special, warm, fuzzy feelings that are so prevalent. I love giving gifts and seeing people open them. It's just a warm, cozy, wonderful, sweet time of year!

10. Thoughts first waking up: "Noooooooo!"

11. Last time you cried: I can't remember, but I'm sure it was ridiculous.

12. Song title that currently says how you feel: "I Can't Fight this Feeling Anymore"...I'm tired!

13. What is the perfect day for you: Spending the day with my family...either just relaxing or doing something fun and adventurous

14. Ever been asked for an autograph? Not that I can recall

15. How do you vent anger? I like to be alone with my anger.

16. Who do you talk to most on the phone? I'm not really a phone-talker, but my mom and friend Harmony both are, so they are really the only ones I talk to

17. As a kid, were you a lego builder? Oh yes, I loved the Legos. However I think they really belonged to Kendall.

18. Do you chew on your straws? Yep. It annoys Scott, too.

19. Do you sing in the shower? Depends on how awake I am and what's on the radio.

20. Who's the last person you stayed up late talking to on the phone to? My mom...she's the only one who calls me at night.

22. Do you cry at weddings? Sometimes, if there is a super-sweet moment that really grabs me.

25. Crunchy or creamy peanut butter? creamy

26. Who do you fight with the most? I guess I would have to say Scott, just because he's the one person who is always around and knows me the best. Sometimes life just gets stressful and we take it out on each other because we are the people closest to one another. We don't really fight a lot, but when I do "fight," it's with him.

27. Who can you tell anything to? Scott; and pretty much all my best girlfriends--Jen, Chelsey, Harmony, Abby, Beth, Kara, and Carrie

28. Do you recycle? No, but I want to. I just recently found out that the Big Spring State Hospital has a recycling center. So, I need to find out more about that. And I bought one of those permanent Wal-Mart shopping bags.

29. Who makes you laugh the most? Hard to say, because I know so many funny people. But again, since Scott is the person I see the most, I'd have to say him. We have a lot of inside jokes. Also, Will. The kid is hilarious.

30. What is the worst feeling ever? Seeing your kids sick and knowing there's really nothing you can do about it. Also, worrying that you might come home to dog-sicles.

31. How many pillows do you sleep with? just one

32. How many rings before you answer your phone? I try to answer it as soon as I can, because it usually only rings when my kids are asleep.

33. How many times do you press the "snooze" button? As many times as I can get away with.

34. How do you sleep? Sporadically...ha! If this is referring to position, I try to start out on my back or sides but I wake up on my stomach a lot.

35. Last time you laughed: probably sometime today, but I just have a really bad memory.

36. Ever looked at someone ugly and said "EWWW"? No, I think my reaction is usually sympathetic in nature.3

7. What is your favorite color? Red, but I really love green, purple, brown and pink, too.

38. What is your favorite state? I'd have to say Texas for the people, but Colorado and Florida for vacations!

Now I get to tag...Chelsey, Terri (Mom), and Tracey!

106-200

Okay, I thought of a few more things I felt the need to share...

106. I am addicted to Bath & Body Works "flavors" (yes, that's really what they call them...remember, I used to work there!) :)
107. My current favorites are Coconut Lime Verbena (probably my all-time favorite), Black Raspberry Vanilla, and Wild Honeysuckle.
108. The first flavor I ever got was Flowering Herbs, which you can only get at certain times when they re-issue "classic" scents.
109. My new favorite perfume is Pure Turquoise by Ralph Lauren.
110. I always like buying things by Ralph Lauren because my name is on there somewhere.
111. Since I had Claire, I hardly wear perfume, though, because I don't want it to aggravate her senses.
112. I have always loved the name Claire, ever since I was in high school.
112b. Claire is also the name of one of my favorite book characters, but I didn't name my daughter after her.
113. Elise (Claire's middle name) has always been a favorite also. My mom told me once that she thought of using it as my own middle name.
114. William is a family name, mainly on Scott's side, but I also had a great-great grandfather with that name.
115. Will was born on his great-great grandfather's birthday (my grandma's dad).
116. Claire was almost born on 07-07-07, but missed it by 10 hours.
117. I am a major list-maker and love to cross things off the lists.
118. Sometimes I feel like I can't function or accomplish things if I do not have a list.
119. When I was little I would write stories all the time and wanted to grow up to be an author.
120. I also had a natural gift for artwork, but I feel that I have lost that ability over the years because I hardly ever practice that skill.
121. I still enjoy doing artwork, but feel I never have the time and space to be able to really do it.
122. I took private art lessons for a couple of years and really enjoyed it.
123. I took only one art class in high school and really liked it, too.
124. However, I couldn't do art every year in high school because of drill team (it counted as a fine art).
125. One of the best things about being in drill team was that I didn't have to take P.E. in high school; it counted as an "athletics" period.
126. My first concert (besides the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo concerts) was Reba McEntire.
127. I remember that she changed costumes 18 times.
128. My first CD was also by Reba.
129. My favorite Disney princess is Aurora/Brier Rose/Sleeping Beauty.
130. I know just about all the words to all the songs in The Little Mermaid.
131. One movie of Will's that I've seen about a hundred times and am still not tired of is The Incredibles.
132. My favorite movie of all time is the 1960's version of The Parent Trap with Haley Mills.
133. When I was younger, I wasn't ever allowed to wear shorts to church.
134. And I definitely wasn't allowed to watch an R-rated movie until I was seventeen.
135. My dad wouldn't let me play with Barbies until I was seven.
136. My first secular music cassette tape was Tiffany.
137. I thought Tiffany was cooler than Debbie Gibson.
138. I wore Electric Youth perfume in junior high.
139. My favorite singer for a long time was Mariah Carey.
140. When I was little, I was swimming in Lake Livingston with my mom and we were chased by a water moccasin. Somehow, she swam away from it fast enough and neither of us were bit.
141. I have worn glasses since I was seven years old (the second grade).
142. My second grade teacher was very mean and stopped letting me sit on the floor in the front of the classroom (my desk was in the back) so I could read what was on the overhead.
143. She scared me so much that I was afraid to ask her to go to the bathroom in the middle of a spelling test and peed my pants.
144. Thankfully it was at the end of the day, so not many people knew about it.
145. When I was in high school I got sent to the principal's office for violating the dress code--my tunic shirt wasn't long enough over my leggings.
146. I thought my mom was in school that day so I didn't call her to have her bring me other clothes and I had to spend the rest of the day in ISS.
147. She ended up being at home all day that day. I was pretty upset when I got home!
148. I was a student choreographer for the drill team training class my senior year.
149. I was also an attendance office aide during first period my senior year and I was was tardy almost every day. Ironic that I worked for the attendance office, yet, didn't get in trouble for being tardy. Hmm...
150. My first car was given to me by my mom's best friend. It was 10 years old when I got it and I had to learn how to drive a standard in order to drive it.
151. We sold the car shortly after we moved to Big Spring and I still see it driving around town sometimes. It was a good car.
152. I was so nervous the first time I drove that car to school by myself that I made my mom drive behind me the whole way.
153. I tried to teach a friend of mine how to drive a stick-shift and she ended up stepping on the gas instead of the break/clutch and ran through a chained off area of a parking lot and it broke my windshield.
154. I drove around with that broken windshield for about three years or so.
155. Scott and I have only bought one car in our married life; the rest were given to us.
156. I have never owned a brand new car and probably won't any time soon.
157. I currently would like to own a mini-van.
158. I both hate and love mini-vans.
159. My favorite one I've seen so far is the Toyota Sienna.
160. I'm currently waiting for someone to give us a mini-van (hint, hint).
161. The last movie I watched was One Night with the King.
162. Esther is one of my favorite Bible characters.
163. For a long time I wouldn't wear polo-shirts because my boss told me she thought they looked manly (she wasn't talking about me--just a blanket statement).
164. I enjoy wearing green because I think it brings out the green in my eyes.
165. I love jewelry, but I wear the same few pieces almost daily.
166. I have an iPod but I hardly ever use it.
167. People always ask me if I play the piano because I have long fingers, but I don't.
168. I took lessons for about a year and a half in junior high.
169. I wish I hadn't stopped.
170. I don't know how to play any instruments.
171. I can't stand to sleep with socks on my feet, much unlike my mother!
172. One of the sure-fire signs that indicate I am pregnant is nose-bleeds.
173. I never had a nose-bleed until after I was married.
174. I love to decorate for Christmas and often want to start around this time of year!
175. I have two full size Christmas trees; one for each of my living rooms.
176. When I was little, I would switch which end of the bed I put my head on so I could look down the hall and see the Christmas tree while I fell asleep.
177. I have thought about going back to school and getting my masters in Organizational Management through LCU.
178. I once had my belly button pierced.
179. I probably wouldn't do it, but if I was ever going to get another piercing I would get a tiny sparkly stud in my nose.
180. However, I think my nose is big enough not to draw any more attention to it than it already attracts!
181. One of my very favorite songs is Smooth by Rob Thomas and Santana and I don't have it on my playlist.
182. I also don't know all of the words to it.
183. Another one of my favorite songs is Counting Blue Cars by Dishwalla and I don't even know what it's about.
184. I am really bad at math and one of the ways I got to know Scott and get him to fall in love with me (wink, wink!) was getting help from him for college algebra.
185. I always said one of the requirements for the man I married would be that he would have to be good at math so he could help our kids with their homework.
186. I gave birth to both my kids "naturally."
187. I had epidurals with both also.
188. I gave birth to both kids in the same hospital room and had the same doctor deliver them.
189. I nursed Will until he was one year old.
190. This morning I hit our neighbor's gas meter with my car.
191. I could hear the gas hissing out and smell it immediately.
192. I got Claire out of the car and ran into the house while calling Scott on the cell phone.
193. The fire department came and shut the gas off. Nothing blew up.
194. We had not met our neighbors until today (they moved in at the same time Claire was born)...what a great way to meet them.
195. I broke the gas line that goes to their house, so now they have no hot water.
196. The reason I hit the meter is that my car was not parked in its normal spot and I didn't even know the meter was there.
197. I was already late to work and it made me an hour later.
198. I wore a top to work today that is really supposed to be a pajama top.
199. I don't think it looks like a pajama top.
200. It is almost impossible for me to go to bed before midnight!!

30. At work, my desk has to be completely clean before I leave.
31. At home, my desk is a complete wreck most of the time.

66. It was one of the coolest things I ever did.
67. I do not enjoy skiing.
68. I have only been once and it took me two hours to get down the mountain.
69. I would rather sit in the cabin by the fire with a book and cup of hot chocolate.
70. I love to read.
71. I love long books like Gone With the Wind, the Outlander series, and the latter Harry Potters. Books that are shorter than four hundred pages are almost no fun because they get finished too quickly.
72. The only places out of the United States I have been are Cancun, Mexico, and the Bahamas.
73. I went to both places my senior year of high school.
74. I went to Cancun with a friend and her family and I went to the Bahamas with the senior members of drill team on a cruise.
75. Some of the girls who went on the cruise were so bad that our director said she would never take another group again (She had taken every group of seniors for the past 15 or so years).
76. I have been to both Disneyland and Disneyworld.
77. I had never ridden a rollercoaster until I was seventeen years old.
78. My first rollercoaster was the Viper at Astroworld. (Astroworld is now no longer with us :().
78. The first time I rode a plane I was about to turn eight. I went with my grandparents to California to meet my new cousin.
80. I was the only grandchild on both sides for eight years.
81. My youngest cousin is four years old.
82. I have an uncle who hasn’t even started having kids yet.
83. My oldest niece is almost twenty-one (she is my niece by marriage). She is older than my brother.
84. My first “real job” (besides babysitting and camp counseling) was at Bath and Body Works.
85. I liked the discount but hated it otherwise because they never gave me enough hours.
86. I have since worked at the LCU post office and bookstore,
87. a funeral home,
88. a high school,
89. and a flower shop.
90. I love to have my fingernails painted but never have enough time to do it.
91. If my toenails aren’t painted or don’t look pretty enough, I won’t wear sandals.
92. I pretty much never leave the house without make-up,
93. or at the very least mascara.
94. I don't really like cats, but I would like to have one anyway, but I won’t get one until my dogs are gone.

95. I think it’s because they’re lower maintenance and they chase away mice.
96. I love Star Trek: The Next Generation and Voyager but I’m not digging Deep Space Nine so much.
97. I am totally into Lost and Heroes.
98. I also love The Office and 30 Rock.
99. I’m a freak about spelling and grammar and I’m not even an English teacher!
100. I think it would be fun to be a copy editor.
101. I also like doing tedious jobs like filing and other secretarial work.
102. I guess it’s a good thing that I’m doing secretarial work.
103. Yes, I know this is more than one hundred, but I’m having fun.
104. I didn't think I could think of one hundred things about myself...

105. ...and now I'll stop :)
